Statement on Plans to Remove the Chief Justice of the Kingdom of Lesotho from Office

Statement by the Chair of the Southern African Chief Justices Forum – the Hon. Chief Justice Shivute, on plans to remove the Hon. Chief Justice Majara of Lesotho, from office.  The SACJF calls on the authorities of the Kingdom of Lesotho to uphold the rule of law and handle the matter in accordance with the principles of natural justice and due process.  Read the full statement in the attachment to this post.

In recognition and amplification of the important role that judiciaries play within the regions, the Southern and Eastern Africa Chief Justices’ Forum (“the Forum”) was established in 2003 to, among other things, uphold the rule of law, democracy and independence of the courts and to promote contact as well as co-operation among the courts in the regions of its operation.
